Name: Celebrate! A View of Juneteenth Traditions and Customs
Date: August 13, 2022
Time: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM CDT
Event Description:
Celebrate! A View of Juneteenth Traditions and Customs exhibit focuses on the wide variety of ways that Juneteenth has been celebrated in Washington County since the emancipation of enslaved Africans in Texas in June 1865.  Specific topics include parades, coronations, rodeos, concerts and entertainment, picnics, sporting events, and reunions.

As BHM completes renovations on the old post office building, their exhibits are displayed in the Bus Depot Gallery at 313 East Alamo at the corner of Clinton.  Hours are 10 AM till 4 PM every Saturday. Other times are available by appointment. The Juneteenth exhibit will run through at least the end of July.

The museum’s African American Content Committee has worked diligently to present Celebrate! A View of Juneteenth Traditions and Customs. Visitors can learn a great deal about the history of this holiday through artifacts, images and historic newspaper articles. Some attire belonging to past royalty at Juneteenth celebrations has been loaned for the exhibit, and a few pieces will be displayed from BHM’s permanent collection.
