Families in Texas experience mental health issues like families anywhere— depression, anxiety, teen suicide, addiction, etc. But Texas is a big place and communities in rural areas have more limited access to diagnosis and treatment than large cities. Many smaller towns haven’t a single psychiatrist or an ER equipped to handle mental health crises. Even the opportunity for tele-health counseling is restricted by the lack of adequate broadband in rural areas.
Lifetime Learning welcomes Dr. Barbara Doleshal as our luncheon speaker on March 10th. She will discuss changes in mental health care in Texas over the last three decades with an emphasis on currently available services.
