Kevin Klaus, lead researcher at the Texas General Land Office, will give an overview of the history of the Adelsverein which provides background for German-Texan research from the 1840s. He will discuss the techniques for tracing German-Texan ancestors using GLO land grant files, as well as methods for researching German records overseas. A case study of the early German immigrant Adolf Fuchs will illustrate the methods used for discovering Fuch's ancestors in Germany. The talk will also cover new material found last year after visiting archives in Wiesbaden, Mönchengladbach, and Dusseldorf Germany.
