Buy Local Program Offers Cash in Contest

October 04, 2014
Many people do not realize the importance of keeping their hard-earned dollars in their own community. The Washington County Chamber’s Buy Local Awareness committee is now holding a contest to inspire businesses and community members to shop locally, share their stories, and become eligible for cash prizes. It’s a win/win for you and your business and community.
As a local business owner/manager, you can give a local vendor an opportunity and they may surprise you. You can find competitive prices locally, or inquire if a local vendor can match prices you find elsewhere. This will reduce your travel and/or shipping expenses and you’re likely to receive better customer service and accountability from local businesses and neighbors.
As you do your personal shopping, you can often find the same or similar products locally that you get in larger cities.  Plus, you’ll find unique items in our local shops.  Keeping sales tax in this community will benefit you, your family and neighbors. Local businesses will become stronger and they are the ones who give most to our local civic organizations, non-profits, youth sports, etc. -- the organizations you care about and support.
With more intra-community trade and higher sales tax income, our local economy will thrive and be more attractive to new retailers, too.
Write up a story about your positive experience with buying local.  Then email it to events@brenhamtexas.com by November 30, 2014 to be entered into a drawing for cash!  One business-to-business testimonial will win $1,000.  One personal shopping story will win $250. The drawing will take place on December 1, 2014, and you don’t have to be present to win.  Full details will be provided to all entries.  We hope to hear from you!
