Community Volunteers Requested For Local Speech and Debate Tournament

November 30, 2017
Blinn College in Brenham will host the National Christian Forensics and Communications Association
(NCFCA) All-Region Speech and Debate tournament January 4-6, 2018. The NCFCA tournament will
provide competition for over 300 high school students from across Texas and Oklahoma in both Lincoln
Douglas and Team Policy debate, as well as various prepared and limited preparation speech events.

Over 200 community volunteers are needed throughout the three day event to evaluate the students.
NCFCA students rely on the judges from all walks of life to provide valuable feedback for improvement,
growth, and encouragement. No previous experience in either speech or debate is necessary to judge.

Judging each round is a three hour commitment which includes a 30 minute judge orientation. Volunteers may judge as little as one round on one day or as many as several rounds over all three days. Complimentary light meals, snacks, and beverages will be provided. The first debate round orientation begins at 7:15 a.m. each day and the first speech round orientation begins at 9:15 a.m. each day. Rounds continue throughout the day with the last round beginning at 7:15 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Saturday rounds will be those students that have advanced from the preliminary events the previous two days and the judges on Saturday can be assured they will be impressed with the caliber of speeches and debates heard. The most common feedback from community judges after they have completed judging is they feel hopeful for our country’s future hearing youth who express themselves so clearly and eloquently.
