Education Update Forum to be held August 3

On Wednesday, August 3, the next event in the Washington County Forum Series will feature Brenham ISD Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson and Burton ISD Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy providing updates on K-12 Education. The forum will be held from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the banquet room of the Blinn College Student Center.
 
Dr. Walter Jackson has been the Superintendent of Brenham ISD since April 2015. He has over twenty years’ experience in public education with a concentration and expertise in leadership coaching, teaching, urban/rural turnaround and transformational change. Dr. Jackson is a member of American Association of School Administrators (AASA), Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA), Texas Equity Center Board of Directors, and Texas Association of Supervision of Curriculum Development (ASCD). He has a Bachelor’s degree from Texas Southern University, a Master’s degree from Prairie View A&M University, a Doctorate from Baylor University, a Harvard University Leadership Certificate and a Rice University Advanced Management Certificate.
 
Dr. Edna Kennedy has been the Superintendent of Burton ISD since February 2015. She has been in education for 34 years. She has her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Tarleton State University, a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Angelo State University, Principal Certificate from ESC XIII/Tarleton State University Cohort Group, Superintendent Certificate from Tarleton State University Cohort Group, and she completed her Doctorate in Educational Leadership in the Spring of 2015.
 
An online survey is being conducted among Chamber members to determine the top areas of concern in the community.  Local businesses and their employees will be able to give input prior to the forum, and Dr. Kennedy and Dr. Jackson will address all of the top issues.  There will also be a moderated Q&A session at the forum.
 
Past Chamber board member Joel Romo of Texana Public Affairs will serve as M.C. of the forum. Romo has worked for members of the Texas Legislature and his lobby experience includes positions as a Governmental Relations Director for the Association of Texas Professional Educators and as Assistant Director of Governmental Relations and Communications for the Texas Municipal Retirement System.  He is a graduate of St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas,
 
Forum tickets are $25 for Chamber members, $35 for non-members or $250 for a reserved Corporate Table (seats 8).  A catered buffet lunch is included.  Reservations can be made by calling the Washington County Chamber at (979) 836-3695.  The deadline to reserve a seat is Wednesday, July 27.
