     At the 2015 Small Business Forum hosted in Brenham on June 3, one local businesses received the honor of having been selected as the “Small Business of the Year” for 2015.  The forum was co-hosted by the Washington County Chamber of Commerce and the Burleson County Chamber of Commerce at the Blinn College Banquet Room. Jon Hill, owner/manager of Appel Ford/Hyundai of Brenham, was the M.C. for the half-day event.
     Home Sweet Farm Market and Biergarten was announced as the 2015 Small Business of the Year winner. Pam Green of RE/MAX Advantage, 2014 Small Business of the Year award recipient, gave a brief introduction of all the accomplishments and community involvement of this year’s winner, noting that they are known as the “Local Food Pioneers” and are committed to supporting the local economy and have also gained national recognition in their industry.
     Home Sweet Farm is owned by Brad and Jenny Stufflebeam. They have been in operation for 12 years and are located in 307 S. Park Street in Downtown Brenham
Prior to the announcement of the winners, attendees were inspired and informed by several different guest speakers. David Yeager of the A.W. Hodde, Jr. Technical Education Center, greeted everyone with an inspirational message on how Brenham will survive the latest hardships, with examples of the history of how Brenham has had to overcome barriers in the past. Adam Boyd of Market Sense & Sandler Training, gave two informative presentations sales, closing business, and building a strong sales team. Charlie Adams of PricewaterhouseCoopers gave a very eye-opening presentation on generational differences in the workplace, Jake Russell of Magnolia Realty explained to the group how the social networking site, LinkedIn, can strengthen contacts in the business community and Todd Staples, president of the Texas Oil and Gas Trade Association gave an update on the oil and gas industry.
     Another Small Business Forum will be held in June 2016, and nominations will be sought in the spring for next year’s Small Business of the Year awards.
